Macabre references aside, Apple apparently has spent roughly $600 billion (yes, Billion) dollars buying sapphire in order to replace their current Gorilla-Glass offering (in advance of releasing the latest / greatest iPhone).
Just think how far this amount of money and concentrated effort could go towards addressing some of the world’s (more) pressing issues / problems than whether or not (albeit an inconvenience) any given end-user’s screen was cracked, shattered, etc.
